All Comprehensive Eye Exams Include:
• Autorefraction: This provides the technician with an estimate of your glasses prescription
• History taking: the technician will ask how your vision and eyes are doing as well as obtain a complete medical history including current and past health issues, medications used, and social history. Many issues, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, can affect the eyes. This is an important part of the exam!
• Visual acuity: Your vision will be checked both with and without glasses
• Refraction: this test determines your glasses prescription
• Pupil assessment: Using a bright light, your pupils will be checked for their shape and reaction to light.
• Confrontation visual field: This test helps to assess the peripheral vision
• Extraocular muscle assessment: This test assesses the function of the eye muscles
• Tonometry: Often referred to as “the glaucoma test”. The technician will use a hand-held device to check your eye pressure.
• Dilation: You will be given drops to dilate the pupils to allow the doctor to get a good view inside of your eye.
